Testimonies

Mark Pereira

Mark PerieraI was born in Canada to Roman Catholic Portuguese parents. When I was 4, we moved back to Portugal. I grew up to become very religious and involved in the church. When I was 12, I met missionaries Allen and Barbara Newton. Through many hours of faithful witnessing they showed me in the Word of God that I was a sinner and that Jesus had died for me, personally. In October 1993, I called upon Jesus to be my personal Savior. Shortly after I got saved, I knew the Lord was calling me into the ministry. For a few years I ran away from His call. Finally, in 2000, I surrendered to God’s call and started studying under Pastor Allen Newton at the IBEV seminary, where I assisted the Newtons church planting efforts in various ways. After graduating in 2002, I helped Pr. Newton as Assistant Pastor in the church in Albufeira. Aura and I got married in 2004 and the church voted me in to be their pastor. It is through this indigenous church that we believe the Lord is calling us to help start other churches in Portugal and train workers for these new ministries.

Aura Pereira

AuraI was born into a Christian family. I was saved at the age of 7, through the influence of a godly Sunday School teacher. Even though I had been taught about the Lord since birth, it was only then I received Him as my Lord and Savior. When I was 8 years old, my family moved to Portugal to be church-planting missionaries. As a young adult, I knew the Lord would have me involved in full-time ministry. After I graduated from high-school, I went back to America where I was in Bible College for a year. I returned to Portugal in 2002 and did some more studies at the IBEV seminary, while helping my parents with their ministries. On my birthday in 2003, Mark proposed and we were married in May 2004. Portugal is home for me and I am excited that the Lord has called us to serve Him in this needy country.
