Sunday Missions Devotional: To be a messenger.
“Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.”
Psalm 96:10
The first thing this verse tells us to tell the heathen is that the Lord reigns. There is a God in Heaven. We are not the masters of our destiny. He is. This is an important truth for the world, but it is just as important for the messenger. We should take this message to the world, because He has told us to do it, and He is in charge. We should love to give people the good news about Jesus, and we often do. We evangelize the lost for their own benefit, but first and foremost for the glory of God. The second concept the verse tells us to spread is the concept of God’s justice. When the rich man finds himself in Hades, he immediately is filled with missionary zeal. “Someone needs to go tell my loved ones about this!”, he thinks. The reality of judgment should be enough to motivate us to tell a dying world about the Lord. Judgment is an inescapable reality, they must know, but grace is triumphant. Are we aware of the weight of our message? Have you considered the privilege it is to be used by the Creator to spread such concepts as sovereignty and justice? Are you living up to the task you were given? Or will you, today, be less than you were made to be?
