Sunday Missions Devotional: It is not about you

“Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.”

1 Chronicles 16:23-24

Salvation is not about us. Salvation is the gift of God, operated (from start to finish) by the power of God. The Lord will receive throughout the ages all the glory for the salvation of sinners. It is all about Him. Nevertheless, and even considering the depth of our failures, He allows us to be part of His wonderful saving operation. There are many ways we can do this. First we should celebrate the fact that we know we are saved. Many religions that clame a superior pedigree never give their members any assurance of salvation. The delaying of such knowledge to an ulterior date gives them control over their followers. It is not so with Christ. He will save all that come to Him and He will give them assurance of their new birth. Isn’t this worthy of  celebration? Doesn’t this give Christians something to sing about? Why are so many Christians sad and mad? How is this going to impact a world saddened and maddened with sin? Christian, please, sing about the God of your salvation for He is worthy of your song. This song is to be sung among the heathen, this passage tells us. Many that offer songs of praise among their fellow Christians become mute when they are “in the world”. It is the world that is in need of your song! They need to hear it, and they need to see that you mean it. Will you share what the Lord has done for you with a dying world?
